About the exhibition:

In this series, Fabiola Lopez explores the impact of the mother-daughter relationship on identity by examining both her own experience and those across different households and communities. She looks at how these complex relationships manifest and are shaped by varying cultures and dynamics in both blood-related and blended families.

Through self-reflection and navigating internal and external dialogues, Fabiola has realized that her relationship with her mother directly informs how she interacts with others. Like many daughters, she strives for independence, working to separate her evolving beliefs from those of her mother. Yet, she recognizes much of her mother reflected in herself—consciously and unconsciously—in the way she carries herself, relates to others, and even smiles.

Fabiola believes that daughters inherently carry aspects of their mothers. This realization fosters deeper self-awareness, inviting individuals to reflect on their identity, values, and choices. Alongside this introspection, she also celebrates the beautiful qualities passed down through generations— love, courage, and resilience.

About Fabiola Lopez:

Fabiola Lopez is a Latina photographer from Los Angeles, CA. She uses photography to explore her own vulnerability and that of her subjects—creating space for meaningful connection. She aims to capture people in their most authentic state—the way they relate, carry themselves, and express emotion. She approaches her subjects with empathy, understanding, and authenticity to foster a collaborative experience where photographer and subject create together.
