Photo Education Teaching Artist (Fall 2026)
There are currently two teaching artist positions open for the upcoming Fall semester. Please review each job description carefully (linked below) and ensure personal capacity aligns with roles and responsibilities and required training dates. Thank you!
Las Fotos Project Teaching Artists (“TAs”) are emerging educators and professionals with a range of experience in or adjacent to the photo industry and a background in empowering youth.
- TAs are part-time at-will employees who have a passion for non-traditional approaches to learning and are able to work collaboratively with a network of peers in the areas of professional development, community building, and skill sharing.
- They commit to a semester of instruction, which includes pre-semester training days, weekly class facilitation, rapport building, professional learning, and post-semester events and debriefs.
- TAs have an interest in creating safe spaces for creative development and supplemental learning specifically focusing on self, community, and career through the medium of photography.
- TAs dedicate time to ensuring student and mentor wellbeing. As a cohort, they meet periodically to reflect and assess progress. They participate in a range of professional development and are contributing members to a teaching artist learning community.
Duration: Training begins in late July - early August. Must be able to provide weekly instruction on Saturday from 10:30AM - 1:00PM (the semester runs from August 24th to November 17th, 2026) at Las Fotos Project.
Compensation: $25/hr (Part-time, 7-10 hours per week for 20 weeks)

Esta Soy Yo Teaching Artist
Independent Study Teaching Artist
The Teaching Artist for Independent Study is an artist educator and professional with a range of experience in or adjacent to the photo industry and/or visual arts, and a strong background in art education and youth empowerment.
- The Independent Study Program (“IS”) provides a space for advanced student artists to deepen their creative practice, refine their artistic voice, and develop a cohesive body of work. Through self-directed learning and peer feedback, students grow as visual storytellers and prepare for real-world creative opportunities.
- In this Fall 2026 iteration, IS will be partnering with a local art institution. The emerging artist's work will be inspired by their exhibitions on the theme of Mexico’s photographic history and contemporary Chicanx artists.
- Teaching Artist for Independent Study is a part-time at-will employee who has a passion for non-traditional approaches to learning and is able to work collaboratively with external partners and a network of peers in the areas of professional development, community building, and skill sharing.
- They commit to a semester of instruction, which includes pre-semester training days, weekly class facilitation, rapport building, professional learning, and post-semester events and debriefs.
- They have an interest in creating safe spaces for creative development and supplemental learning specifically focusing on self, community, and career through the medium of photography.
- They dedicate time to ensuring student and mentor wellbeing. As part of the Las Fotos Project Teaching Artist cohort, they meet periodically to reflect and assess progress. They participate in a range of professional development and are contributing members to a teaching artist learning community.
Duration: Paid training begins in late July - early August. Must be able to provide instruction weekly on Saturday from 1:30PM - 4PM at Las Fotos Project and facilitate one, virtual check-in with students (the semester runs from August 24th to November 17th, 2026).
Compensation: $30/hr (Part-time, 10-12 hours per week for 20 weeks)

Las Fotos Project photography mentors (un-paid volunteer position)
Position Description
NOTE: This is an un-paid, volunteer position. Las Fotos Project mentors are adults within or adjacent to the visual arts industry ranging from avid photo hobbyists to practicing professional photographers whose backgrounds range from education and photojournalism to fine arts and editorial photography, and everything in between. They are adults who have a passion for connecting with emerging creatives and working collaboratively with a network of peers in the areas of professional development, community building, and skill sharing. Las Fotos Project Mentors have an interest in creating safe spaces for creative growth and supplemental learning specifically focusing on self, community, and career through the medium of photography. They commit to a semester of mentoring, which includes weekly class collaboration, rapport building, and professional learning. Mentors supplement TA facilitation in weekly class sessions and dedicate time to ensuring student and class wellbeing and meet periodically to reflect and assess progress. They participate in pre and post semester professional development and are contributing members of a mentor network.
Hourly commitment & Location:
Average 3.5 hours per week
This is an in-person volunteer opportunity at our Boyle Heights gallery space
Desired Qualifications
3+ years of work or volunteer experience
Current or former practicing professional in the visual arts industry or adjacent field
1 + years of experience working with teenage youth highly desired
Consistent weekly availability of approximately 3.5 hours (2.5 in class, 1 outside of class)
Digital file management experience (image uploading and storage, document sharing)
Adobe Suite experience (Lightroom, Photoshop, Express)
Personal philosophy aligned with LFP’s mission and vision
Ability to pass TB Test and receive LiveScan clearance
