AT LAS FOTOS PROJECT
Photography
Education
At LFP, photography is a pathway for young women and gender-expansive artists of color to explore identity, community, and future careers. Across 14-week programs, they develop technical skill and artistic vision through individualized mentorship and our participatory photography curriculum, thereby gaining the confidence to tell their own stories and shift how their worlds are seen and understood. Classes are entirely free, and each student is provided with a professional DSLR camera kit for the semester.
PUBLIC
EXHIBITIONS
Located in Boyle Heights, where arts spaces are too often out of reach, Las Fotos Project has built a gallery that belongs to the community. Our exhibitions are declarations—young women and gender-expansive artists taking up space, presenting their work with rigor, and inviting audiences to engage with their visions. Together, we’re shaping a movement that centers our neighborhoods, our identities, and our future.
Creative Career
Pathways
Through our Creative Career Pathways social enterprise, Las Fotos Project Studio connects young women and gender-expansive artists of color with professional opportunities in Los Angeles’s creative industries. Our artists bring fresh perspective and undeniable talent to commercial, nonprofit, and cultural paid projects—while building sustainable careers that reimagine who leads and shapes LA’s creative economy.
Community
Engagement
Beyond serving students, Las Fotos Project believes that art is a powerful force that can fundamentally transform the communities we serve.
Led by our Youth Advisory Council, our community engagement initiatives leverage our gallery and program space for the larger neighborhood. Not only are families and neighbors included in workshops, events and exhibitions, but also come to Las Fotos Project to access mutual aid support like food and clothing distribution. We are proud to be a neighborhood anchor in Boyle Heights creating ripple effects of impact across Los Angeles.
