LA County Arts & Culture: Photo Education Internship
Position Description
The Las Fotos Project Photo Education intern will work collaboratively with the Photo Education team and Teaching Artists in the areas of classroom management, student evaluation, and curriculum development. Additionally, they will work with the team to create a safe learning space for students – this includes creative development and supplemental learning specifically focusing on community, self-identity, and career through the medium of photography. The intern’s primary responsibilities for the duration of this internship include developing co-facilitation skills and supporting the Photo Education team with the implementation of a new student management platform. The intern will also support participants and Teaching Artists with check-in procedures, testing and monitoring communication tools, as well as support staff with program evaluations sent through the new platform. The Photo Education Intern will also meet periodically with staff to reflect and assess progress.

The role: Teaching Artist Assistant
Internship start date: July 14, 2026 and end date: December 11, 2026
Compensation: $18.47 / hour
Must be available to work 20 hours per week (Summer schedule may differ slightly once our Fall semester classes begin in late August)
All work will be completed on-site and in-person at our Boyle Heights gallery space
Requirements
Able to legally work within the United States
Is a resident of Los Angeles County attending college outside of the region and/or currently attend college in Los Angeles County
Be a currently enrolled undergraduate student (four-year or community college)
Currently enrolled = taking at least 1 class right now
Reside in and/or attend school in Los Angeles County
Physical location does not matter if you can prove residence or enrollment
You may be a high school graduate, as long as you graduate between May 1 – December 1, 2026 and meet the above criteria
Desired Qualifications
Interested in pursuing an Arts Education or Teaching career after graduating
Passionate about education and working with students of diverse skill levels
Patient, approachable, and committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment
A creative person with passion for the arts, photography, and social justice
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working with youth is highly valued
Basic camera skills and knowledge of Adobe Programs (Lightroom and Photoshop) is preferred, but not required

Las Fotos Project Photography mentors (un-paid volunteer position)
Position Description
NOTE: This is an un-paid, volunteer position. Las Fotos Project mentors are adults within or adjacent to the visual arts industry ranging from avid photo hobbyists to practicing professional photographers whose backgrounds range from education and photojournalism to fine arts and editorial photography, and everything in between. They are adults who have a passion for connecting with emerging creatives and working collaboratively with a network of peers in the areas of professional development, community building, and skill sharing. Las Fotos Project Mentors have an interest in creating safe spaces for creative growth and supplemental learning specifically focusing on self, community, and career through the medium of photography. They commit to a semester of mentoring, which includes weekly class collaboration, rapport building, and professional learning. Mentors supplement TA facilitation in weekly class sessions and dedicate time to ensuring student and class wellbeing and meet periodically to reflect and assess progress. They participate in pre and post semester professional development and are contributing members of a mentor network.
Hourly commitment & Location:
Average 3.5 hours per week
This is an in-person volunteer opportunity at our Boyle Heights gallery space
Desired Qualifications
3+ years of work or volunteer experience
Current or former practicing professional in the visual arts industry or adjacent field
1 + years of experience working with teenage youth highly desired
Consistent weekly availability of approximately 3.5 hours (2.5 in class, 1 outside of class)
Digital file management experience (image uploading and storage, document sharing)
Adobe Suite experience (Lightroom, Photoshop, Express)
Personal philosophy aligned with LFP’s mission and vision
Ability to pass TB Test and receive LiveScan clearance
