Angel City Football Club
Artists in Residence
Artists in Residence showcases the work of three photographers through a partnership program with Angel City Football Club. Angel City FC’s community-focused sponsorship model invests directly with local initiatives like Las Fotos Project to elevate youth voices through transformative opportunities. These images capture the energy of La Fortaleza—the heartbeat of the club led by its 6 supporter groups and their vibrant community. With access to mentorship, training, and on-the-job experience, our youth are empowered to document history in real time, demonstrating what is possible when girls and gender expansive youth of color are centered as visual storytellers and changemakers.

Camila Solano Sandoval, age 17
About Me:
My name is Camila Sandoval, a 17-year-old artist from Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles. My photography intends to explore feelings of passion, comfortability, and nostalgia. My inspiration comes from my family and my Mexican-Salvadorian culture. My community shows up in my art through the colors I capture and the feelings that are displayed. Photography has allowed me to explore my creativity and express myself and my emotions. When people see my work I want them to feel a sense of community. I believe that art is powerful because it can evoke feelings that may have not been brought up otherwise.

PROJECT REFLECTION
These photos aim to capture the pride, passion and determination of the players and the fans that surround them. My goal was not only to highlight the action, but to display the strong emotions that come with a sport. By showcasing the proud fans or the determined players, each photo reflects the passion behind every moment.
Gabriela Salazar, age 22
About Me:
Gabriela Salazar is an LA-based photographer with Salvadoran roots whose work is shaped by family, community, and lived experience. Drawn to vibrant color, nature, and the energy of urban LA, she creates maximalist storytelling rooted in everyday life, often building concepts from what’s around her and letting her environment shape each image. She also documents movement through sports photography, capturing the energy between players and emotions of fans. Blending documentary and portrait photography with surrealist elements, Gabriela tells stories that feel dream-like and challenge the narrow ideas of who belongs in fine art spaces. For her, photography is a form of agency: a way to reclaim autonomy, resist simplification, and cultivate joy.
Women in Spaces
PROJECT REFLECTION
I loved being part of the Angel City Football Club residency. Photographing the games felt surreal and in these moments, I could only envision my future looking like this. I am especially thankful to the teaching team for cultivating a comforting space for us to learn. Through the residency, I learned how to show up for myself as a woman in male-dominated spaces and have grown confident navigating the technical side of sports photography.
Kali Salazar, age 21
About Me:
Kali Salazar is a Peruvian-American photographer and videographer based in Southern California. Her work is rooted in visual storytelling and is driven by a strong desire to not only capture fleeting moments but to preserve them in a way that reflects the essence and emotions present. As a recent film school graduate of CSU Long Beach, Kali approaches photography through a lens that draws inspiration from different art forms. She strives to document stories as they naturally unfold before her, focusing on both the quiet, often unnoticed, as well as the more grandiose details, and the passion and energy that shape these moments.
The Beautiful Game
PROJECT REFLECTION
The Angel City Football Club Artist-in-Residence Program surrounded me with inspiration through the passion and artistry expressed by the team, fans, mentors, and cohort. Having the opportunity to join a supportive creative community amplified my love for photography while reminding me of the impact it holds. At the core of our medium, photography brings people together and tells stories, and with Angel City FC, enables us to capture the beauty of what football represents: unity and resilience.
